About Us

René Bouwer has been the principal of the school for the past 23 years. The baby care centre has been part of the group for the past 15 years. Last year we also started an after care centre.

The baby centre, situated at 25 Neville Street, Brackendowns is home to babies from 3 months to 3 years old. We have three classes, Annette Riley heads a very competent team at the school.

Our babies follow a developmental program that includes music and language development. The babies are seen individually on a weekly basis by the kinder kinetics instructor. She massages the tiny ones and helps the bigger ones develop their gross muscles.

Babies’ feeding is adapted to their ages and needs. We supply all solids, rooibos tea and apple juice. Parents supply formula milk. Our babies have fruit and yoghurt as a snack.

Parents supply a packet of Wet-wipes per month. We use Bennett’s baby bum cream, Fissan paste, Bepanthen and Multipeol; you need to supply an alternative if you do not want us to use the mentioned brands.

Toddler classes follow the same themes as the nursery school. They are amongst a host of other skills, taught to colour in, cut, paste and thread. They also learn songs and rhymes related to our themes. All children at the baby care centre are assessed continuously and we issue progress reports twice a year.

We maintain an open door policy and parents are always welcome to discuss any concern or qualm with René or any of the teachers.

Children who can converse adequately, who no longer need bottles and nappies, are placed at the nursery school.

Children from 3 years old to Grade 0/R, are educated at the nursery school. The nursery school is situated at 17 Kalossie Street, Brackenhurst. The 2 to 3 year old group attends the baby care centre where they follow the same curriculum as the nursery school. All academic information in this brochure pertains to this group as well.

René is the principal of both schools, Maureen Badenhorst is the administration clerk and the teaching team is made up of six teachers and 4 assistants. The teachers are all either qualified or training to become qualified.

Classes for Grade 000 and Grade 00 are presented bilingually. Grade 0/R classes are presented in English or Afrikaans only.

We follow the Gauteng department of Education curriculum for Foundation Phase and we do enrichment work as far as we can. According to the GDE syllabus, we are not allowed to teach pre-schoolers to read and write before they go to Grade 1. We do however do pre-reading, writing and maths exercises.

We strive to send “whole” children who are school ready, to the primary school. It is sometimes necessary to enhance certain aspects of a child’s development. We have the services of:  physio-, occupational- and speech therapists to help us. We also make use of a play therapist and an educational psychologist, if necessary.

Our Grade 0/R learners follow the Rock series, a computer based reading and early maths program. All the learners in our school weekly attend Kinderkinetics classes to help their gross motor development. The cost of these courses is included in our monthly fee.

Lastly.

Thank you for considering our school as the school where your child will spend most of his/her most important forming years. I believe that it is God’s will that specific children attend our schools, we have important work to do with each of His children. We plan to make this a very special experience for every child in our care. We want to lead your child to become a happy, whole, balanced child who knows the Lord.
I am always available during school hours, please contact me if there is a problem. I am genuinely eager to help, if I am aware that there is a concern or problem. Please bear in mind that I can only help if I am made aware of the problem, qualm or concern. You are there to protect your child, please do not neglect to do that.
